This halfhearted level design makes the focus of the online play (and perhaps even the single-player missions) crystal clear: They're there to show off the appearance and abilities of your mech, not to offer anything approaching a good time. This idea is underscored by the fact that one of the primary features of the online lobby is the ability to trade Nexts and decals with others.
